I honestly could not resist going to watch the newest Pokemon movie, Detective Pickahu. My past experience with Pokemon was really only limited to the video games as the animated series was after my time and the card game was interesting but didn’t capture my attention. However, the stories surrounding the Pokemon universe was engaging so I enjoy a number of the games.
Given my competitive nature, the battling system was what captured my attention in following Pokemon and its updates. I enjoyed that the movie was not as invested in the past universe of the main series but had some part of the battling which was fun to watch. I didn’t have much expectations going into the movie and after watching The Avengers just days before, it would be tough to be impressed but it was surprisingly engaging until the end with a good message while also leaving space for future endeavors into the cinematic space.
It was a long time coming bit given the technology and the demand for the franchises of the past to come in the movies, it was a great success in creating the story and making it entertaining for all Pokemon fans, new and old. It was also not too short or long which often happening with these ports from games and books. In talking with others in the Pokemon Go community, they have also enjoyed it. It was better than another night watching Netflix or Cable TV!
