Mangrove forests or also called mangrove forests are forests that grow in brackish water, and are affected by tides. This forest grows especially in places where there is puddling and accumulation of organic matter.

Mangrove trees are a type of tropical mangrove plant of the Rhizophora genus. In mangrove forests, mangroves usually grow at the very front facing the sea. It has a tunjang root that grows out from the rootstock. The root serves to strengthen the grip of the tree so as not to fall. In addition it also functions as a respirator.

Mangroves can grow in environments with high salt, submerged water, sandy soil, and mud sediments. Mangrove roots have special glands that can filter salt from seawater. Some salt is also dumped through the aborted old leaves. The leaves of the mangrove tree have a thick cuticle layer to reduce evaporation.

I've read so much about mangroves in Hemingway's work but never knew what they were.
