These rocks have been caught in the tree roots and eroded over many, many years. The repeated rain and winter freezing has caused the rocks to crack into the slabs you see in the picture. The sheets of rock have fallen below and reveal a story. Resting upon the landslide, just 8 inches off the bottom, I found slabs of agate, which formed in the cracks the rain left.

I'm surprised that the rock is still holding up despite all of that erosion. Though from the look of it, it won't hold that long. It'll probably collapse in a few years or if unlucky a heavy rain could collapse it in an instant.
