High level status customer service phone number is answered in the same time as the "regular" phone number most of the time (dial two phones); they will no longer reaccommodate a confirmed seat on a connection when delayed - they prefer you are stranded in the connection city - they would sell you a ticket, but will not confirm your next flight. They will not put you on another airline. In the past this was done for frequent high status customers. If you are in group 2, its an afterthought most of the time- usually group 1 then group 2-3. I will not longer fly American with a connnection due to the fact that most American flights I am on are LATE or CANCELLED
