Hyacinth or water hyacinth (Latin: Eichhornia crassipes) is one of the plants that floats in water.

Hyacinth was first discovered accidentally by a scientist named Carl Friedrich Philipp Von Martius a German botanist in 1824 while on an expedition in the Brazilian Amazon River. Hyacinth has a high growth rate so that this plant is regarded as a weed that can damage the aquatic environment. Hyacinth is easily spread through water channels to other water bodies.
