Village or ward elder and relatives also are present at the engagement ceremony. At such a ceremony, girl's parents are used to say that they want inquiry into their daughters's wish. Mother or the elder sister of the girl asks for the girl's consent. If the girl says yes, wedding date has been chosen at that engagement ceremony. They discuss in detail how to hold the wedding ceremony.

​ေစ့စပ္​​ေၾကာင္​းလမ္​း​ေသာ အခမ္​းအနားသို႔ ရပ္​ရြာလူႀကီးမ်ားႏွင္​့ ​ေဆြမ်ိဳးမ်ားလည္​းလာ​ေရာက္​ၾကသည္​။ ထိုသို႔ ​ေစ့စပ္​​ေၾကာင္​းလမ္​းလာ​ေသာအခါ သမီး႐ွင္​မိဘမ်ားက မိမိတို႔သမီး၏ စိတ္​ဆႏၵကို ​ေမးျမန္​းပါရ​ေစ စသည္​ျဖင္​့​ေျပာတတ္​ၾကသည္​။ မိခင္​ၾက္ီးသို႔မဟုတ္​ အစ္​မျဖစ္​သူက မိန္​းက​ေလး၏ ဆႏၵကို​ေမး၏။ မိန္​းက​ေလးက သ​ေဘာတူပါက ​ေစ့စပ္​​ေၾကာင္​းလမ္​းမႈ အခမ္​းအနား၌ပင္​ မဂၤလာ​ေဆာင္​မည္​့ရက္​ကို ​ေရြးၾကသည္​။ မဂၤလာ​ေဆာင္​ပါက ဧည္​့သည္​မ်ားကို ဘာ​ေကြၽးမည္​ ၊ မည္​သို႔မည္​ပုံ မဂၤလာ​ေဆာင္​ၾကမည္​ကိုလည္​း ​ေျပာဆိုတတ္​ၾကသည္​။
Myanmar girls generally choose the fellow villagers to be her husband. If they choose to get married to boys from distant village or region, their parents and fellow villagers will not agree to her choice. So, it is unacceptable to be a wife of a foreigner. Those who get married to foreigners are despised by others.
ျမန္​မာအမ်ိဳးသမီးမ်ားသည္​ မိမိရပ္​ရြာ တစ္​ရြာတည္​း​ေနသူမ်ားကိုသာ ဦးစား​ေပး၍ ခင္​ပြန္​း​ေရြးခ်ယ္​ၾကသည္​။ တစ္​ရပ္​တစ္​​ေက်း တစ္​ရြာသားကို လက္​ထပ္​ပါက မိဘ​မ်ား​ေရာ ရပ္​ရြာကပါ မႏွစ္​သက္​ၾက။ ထို႔​ေၾကာင္​့ ျမန္​မာအမ်ိဳးသမီးမ်ားသည္​ လူမ်ိဳးျခားႏွင္​့ လက္​ထပ္​ျခင္​းကို လက္​မခံၾက​ေပ။ လူမ်ိဳးျခားႏွင္​့လက္​ထပ္​သူမ်ားအား အမ်ိဳးကို မ​ေစာင္​့​ေ႐ွာက္​သူမ်ားဟု ​ေခၚၾကသည္​။
