Semangka atau tembikai adalah tanaman merambat yang berasal dari daerah setengah gurun di Afrika bagian selatan. Tanaman ini masih sekerabat dengan labu-labuan, melon dan ketimun. Semangka biasa dipanen buahnya untuk dimakan segar atau dibuat jus.
Saat cuaca panas dan terik minta ampun, buah semangka jadi salah satu pelepas dahaga yang diincar banyak orang. Usut punya usut, buah bundar yang banyak airnya ini punya segudang manfaat lainnya buat tubuh di samping mengusir dehidrasi.

Pada bulan Ramadhan di daerah kami biasanya semangka sangat banyak dijual karena diburu masyarakat sebagai salah satu yang digunakan untuk berbuka puasa. Ada yang membuat jus dan ada juga yang memakan langsung.
Semangka terdapat dalam beberapa jenis, ada yang dagingnya berwarna merah dan ada yang berwarna kuning. Juga kita temukan ada yang berbiji juga ada semangka non biji.
