The upgrade of "Serenity" as part of Ethereum 2.0 will finally be unveiled on January 3, 2020. This tentative date has been announced by Justin Drake as a reasonable goal to present Ethereum's new directions. The update will also be accompanied by new technologies like Plasma, Casper and Sharding on Ethereum.
A tentative date for launching the update
In his statement, Justin Drake mentioned that Ethereum should submit its new update for January 2020, although it is a tentative date. In addition, he explained that the specification of the "zero phase" will take place this month, especially since Ethereum is preparing a filing ceremony in October, as it was decided at this year's Devcon5.
One of the great innovations brought by Ethereum 2.0 will be the shift from PoW consensus (Proof of Work) to PoS (proof of stake, or so-called proof of participation).
Note that Ethereum has always advocated accessibility over its main competitor Bitcoin, which is why proof of participation will be exploited from this new update.
Another year before touching the Grail
Currently, the Ethereum network suffers from an innovation gap. Its performance in dApps (decentralized applications) has slowed down for some time now, with low adoption by users.
That said, the co-founder of the platform, Vitalik Buterin had mentioned that the Ethereum revolution was underway, and that a slump seemed natural.
Currently, Ethereum is preparing to cross the final straight and begins to organize the community to receive his new beast.
"So the idea here is to try to get the deposit contract out before the target , to give the validators time to make deposits ... to do a security deposit at Devcon. One of the reasons why this very public ceremony was organized is that we can all agree on the exact address of the deposit contract and avoid fraudulent deposit contracts, "says Drake. What do you think of this future update of Ethereum?
