In an interview with TechCrunch, Ethereum developers, including Justin Drake and Vitalik Buterin, spoke about the future solution for scaling Ethereum.
Buterin recalled that taxes on transactions in Ethereum are largely dependent on supply and demand:
A lot of people send transactions and want these transactions to get into the blockchain. Blockchain is quite popular, and people are interested in using it, so there is competition for places for transactions in blocks.
Vitalik Buterin admitted-if the developers started the project again, they implemented many features that could initially eliminate the problem of scaling. In the current situation, when Ethereum has become a large and active platform, the decision turned out to be”fundamentally difficult".
Justin Drake noted two priority areas for the Ethereum team: the Casper Protocol, which should transfer Ethereum from the PoW consensus to the PoS, and sharding, which will allow the blockchain to work smoothly with a large number of users and transactions.
Upgrading the system was created separately. Also, the developers did not plan to implement Casper and sharding together. According to Drake, the improvements are now combined into one structure:
Sharding allows you to work with areas of the blockchain, which will exist as parallel universes. So-called cross-links or checkpoints will be used to communicate between them.
At the same time, the integration of the Casper Protocol together with sharding will allow to “strengthen” checkpoints and create a more secure and scalable system.
The developers call the upcoming update Ethereum 2.0-an ambitious project that is likely to be implemented within a few years. By 2019, the team plans to launch Casper, after which the system will be ready in the implementation of sharding. The process will take place in two stages, which should be completed by 2020.

That was some nice content on the introduction of POS and sharding.. thankyou very much.. ethereum really is a great project and has a great future ahead when it will be transfered to POS by mid-2019...
