The reason why I feel tempted to invest big in Ethereum is because:
- The technology is useful and is seeing widespread adoption and active development;
- It has a vision / roadmap;
- Big companies are backing it and building applications using Ethereum;
- Recently the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) was created (comprising of Blockchain startups, research labs and global companies) with a goal to collectively develop industry standards and encourage collaboration between its various members (something that bitcoin lacks);
- New Metropolis version of Ethereum is coming.
On the flip side, however, I've found the following risks:
- Speculation and hype are seeing huge dumps of money/investment from China, S. Korea and Russia;
- Ethereum introduced easy ways of raising investments for companies called ICO (Initial Coin Offerings), in which unique tokens that are compatible with the Ethereum network and its token Ether are offered to companies. This means that companies can raise capital without the involvement of intermediaries and mediators. Lately, ICOs have been seen as contributing to raising the unit price of ETH, but given that not all technologies promised by ICOs may be successful ETH price may be negatively impacted;
- As Ethereum has become as easy to buy as bitcoin, people are increasingly using it for alt. coin purchasing/trading on different exchanges which surges the price up a little;
- Exchanges speculate a lot of "over-buying" which is normally corrected making the price of ETH fluctuate a lot;
- Ethereum is planning to switch to PoS and there might be another hard fork (since Ethereum is not immutable) which may result in coin-split such as Ethereum Classic (although this is somewhat unlikely, but still a possibility);
- Companies in EEA mostly use private chains instead of ETH, but it's marketed otherwise;
- Currently, no clear trend can be seen; it is speculated that the price can fall down to $250 or set a course to an upward trajectory of $1000.
It is obvious that the right time to invest in ETH was back in January 2017 when the price was around $8, but at the time of writing the price sits at about an average $385 across different exchanges, and speculation and trends suggest it may surge up to $1000+ by the end of the year (or maybe even sooner). So keeping that in mind, I think it's still sort of a good bet to invest heavy in Ethereum, and pull out when the time is right.
I would love to hear your thoughts, whether you think investing a big amount into Ethereum is a good idea right now or not; and I would love to hear from people who're actively investing right now.

ETH will definitely go to $1,000, maybe by the end of 2017. I see ETH going to $5,000-$10,000 in the next 5 years. If ETH goes to 5 trillion dollar market cap, the price will be at $50,000 a coin. That is assuming they keep the supply at 98 billion. Considering the stock market, gold market and fiat market are all 80+ trillion dollar markets each, I think ETH, a world currency supercomputer that will change all life as we know it, can pick up A LOT of that money.

Hi Dannnielli,
Great blog post, but before you invest $50.000, please check this youtube video with Vlad. There are still a lot of problems...a lot of DEVELOPERS already sold there ETHEREUM......

Will check it out, but we can't neglect the fact that speculation and hype is and will be a driving factor for price raise in Ethereum's case, at least for the foreseeable future. Does that not make it a good short-term investment?

Take it slow and don't try to surpass maximums you are allowed to put in. Coinbase starts at 5,000 USD a week. The time you put into waiting you will allow yourself to learn more about the market and also look at a number of the other currencies. I am a big believer in a diversified portfolio. Heck! I just bought some PotCoin.

lol @ potcoin; how much do you reckon is a safe-bet investment into ETH? Taking it slow in Ethereum's case can be costly; I've been wanting to invest since the time it was at a mere $11, and look at it now lol! As for alt. coins, I'm particularly interested in Stratis, DASH, DigiByte and NEM; got any other I should look into?

Stratis is the only currency currently on Microsoft .net code. That I know of. This gives it a ton of B2B applications. I think it is extremely undervalued. I hedge with a lot of different things. There will not be one coin to rule them all.
No bet is a safe bet in this system. Any money put in you have to be completely secure to lose. This is why I only invest currency I have mined. Only real world dollars for the GPUs and they are now worth x3 what I bought them at. Great investment!!

Been looking into mining as well, you make a good point about mining them at low value and reaping the benefits when/if they shoot up. I looked at genesis mining for various reasons, but a lot of people say it's a scam and it's better to build your own rig. But, since it's out of question for me to build my own rig, I have instead been looking at renting dedicated servers for this purpose, but the price of that versus the value of coin being mined, doesn't really yield much value unless of course the coin value shoots up dramatically. Which brings me to instinctively, and kind of impulsively, invest large sums into Ethereum as it's yielding a positive upward trend (at least for now).

costs about 2k for a rig, put that much into just buying the currency outright. Play with that for a month and come up with your strategy. The transaction speed is not available yet so any amount of day trading is incredibly risky.

When moving between currencies it can take up to a couple of hours for the transaction to go through. The currency you are trading from and the one you are going into can have very drastic price fluctuations in that time.
Once the transaction speed is much faster (a matter of seconds) it will make more sense to day trade.
Just yesterday one my initial currency was sold on the exchange and was being changed for the second the price of the second dropped more than 20%. Thankfully this meant I acquired many more tokens than I expected, but it could have gone the other way and become a bad trade.

I am very much of the view that ETH will reach $1,000 and exceed this - many reasons are on my recent post 👌👌

Agreed! But what do you think about the risks involved? How much impact can they have on the long-term and short-term outlook?

Very good blog. Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks like this. Buy and hold for the upcoming 2 to 5 years and the market will find it's way. We really need more insights in the market and previous investment results (even though they don't deliver any guarantee for the future). I found this amazing platform: https://www.coincheckup.com They give great insights in the team, the product, advisors, community, the business and the business model and other techincal insights. For example: https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Ethereum#analysis To see the: Ethereum Detailed report.
