The way I see it, there is 2 main reasons why you would want to keep up with the news on Ethereum:
- Either you are building your Dapp (Decentralized application).
- You are investing in the platform.
On the investing side:
- You are straight out buying ether and holding it for the long term.
- You are currently hunting those revolutionary ICOs.
Figuring out why you're following the news is critical if you don't want to waste your time. Following the hype, you can start reading meaningless comments/articles and getting lost/confused.
If you are holding for long term, it is non-sensical to checkout the Ether price daily. Just be confident in your evaluation of the technical innovations and how likely they are going to impact the future.
If you have a bunch of Ether and not developing your own Dapp, it makes sense to invest some of it in ICOs:
- Read the project's whitepaper.
- Checkout the people behind it.
- Think again on whether the idea makes sense (decentralized).
Google their names to make sure they are not crooks. Read their blogs to make sure they know what they are talking about.
If you are building your own dapp or even thinking about raising money through an ICO, you will have to invest the most in time/energy:
- Skim from time to time r/ethereum
- Watch Ethereum's EIPS
- Skim discussions on Gitter's EIPS
- Useful mediums tags: #Ethereum, #Blockchain, #Cryptocurrency and #Smart-Contracts
- Check out new dapps, r/ethdapps for inspirations or quick things to hack on.
