Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a cryptocurrency that was created in 2016 as a result of a hard fork in the Ethereum blockchain. The hard fork was necessary in order to reverse the effects of a hack that had resulted in the loss of millions of dollars worth of digital assets.

Ethereum Classic is an open-source, decentralized computing platform that uses smart contracts to facilitate and verify transactions. Like Ethereum, it allows for the creation of decentralized applications (dApps) on its platform, which is often used to facilitate transactions in various industries such as finance, real estate, and more.

One key difference between Ethereum and Ethereum Classic is that the latter has a strong emphasis on immutability, which means that once a transaction has been added to the blockchain, it cannot be altered or reversed. This is in contrast to Ethereum, which has made some changes to its blockchain in order to reverse the effects of hacks or other malicious activity. As a result, Ethereum Classic is often seen as being more "censorship-resistant" than Ethereum, although this can also make it more challenging to make changes to the network when necessary.
