Central Bankers Prepared to Wrestle Ethereum and blockchain technology in South Africa

Rumor has it that yesterday six major banks in South Africa (with a possible seventh) are currently working with the Ethereum blockchain in order to see how they can use blockchain technologies to improve their operations. These aren't small players either. Big boys at the event includedUBS and CIO of Barclay's Africa division Andrew Baker, who found out Barclays isn't the only one wrestling with Ethereum's blockchain technology for future smart contract technology.

Baker stated that instead of competing against each other in this collaborative, that they are taking an "all ships will rise" approach, which he believes will help in the long run. A source from Barclays stated " You are talking about 100 or 200 people that are building stuff with  this and some of them are from banks,” the source said. “It’s the  beginning. It’s not even the end of the beginning. It’s the beginning of  the beginning.”

Using the ABSA host for its private Ethereum based private software, the testing, which may become a collaborative with payment processors and regulators may be the start of something big for the coin.

"We wanted to really experience a distributed, multi-geography, multi-database, ethereum-based service," Baker said.

With talk of the BRICS nations becoming independent of the USD and EURO dominated western markets and the fall of the petro dollar, it appears that South Africa has already started to move it's technological chesspiece in the right direction.
