I like expressionism. I like this because it has no conforming
borders. You can paint whatever you like, how you like. What
is art? Expressionism consists of Artists, The Artwork, in
some cases even the viewer. Expressionism is said to hand
over to people your feelings. Expressionism involves paintings
sculptures and literature. Expressionism also allows others to
share in our experiences. In theory, expressionism has place
in the western culture and said to have both emotional and
physical conscience based themes.
Downfalls to Expressionism, this form of art stated by some is
if the viewer didn’t like it, then it was not considered art. To
me, art hangs on the wall and I think that sub-consciously can
invoke different meanings to different people. All in all,
expressionism is working and expressing a inner world of
thoughts that is with the living, plateaus seen that even
though the physical body couldn’t reach.
Expressionism allows the artist to paint how they feel. Another
downfall to expressionism is the fact that if you look at the
time period. Life was very dirty and hard. Wars much
bloodshed a real pig sty. I can only imagine that many people
were basic introverts and not fighters. These sets of people
were meant to express their own personal views in their way
of expression. In the form of paintings
Expressionism truly began in 1905, when German Artist Ernst
Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt - Rottluf and Fritz
Bleyl in which they formed the group “Die Brucke” The Bridge
1905-1913. These guys were against “superficial” naturalism
and wanted to create a better art form expression. In their
search to convey authentic emotion, they looked back to “pre
academic” forms of art.., and found much inspiration from
these more primitive, modes of painting. The name “Die
Brucke” means bridge. This would create art from the past to
“bridge to” art of the future. In these cases, culture needed a
bridge such as this.
Die Brucke’s manifesto was published in 1906
with a belief in continuing evolution, in a new generation of
creators as well as enthusiasts,” this moment was meant to
bring unity amongst the youths. And as youth we are to carry
the future, the same its been for many years before us. To
the creators of this fine period, I think this form of art is code
to see who is one of us.
