A new front door will liven up your home and make it stand out on your street. Entering your home through a clean gate will make you feel good and will also give your guests a good first impression.
Cleaning doors isn't difficult, but you may need a few different cleaning products depending on what type of door you have.
Starting with some of the materials you will need and explaining how to prepare and clean them from top to bottom, here's how to best maintain your exterior wooden doors.
Gather your cleaning products
The first task is to consider what kind of door you have and how much dirt and grime you need to get rid of. For prep and cleaning, you may only need a few supplies here. For some types of doors, or depending on the activity to be performed, all of them may be required.
To prepare your door for cleaning, you may need one of the following: a vacuum cleaner with a hose and brush, paper towels or soft rags, a duster, a small artist's brush, a ladder, and a broom.
For the cleaning step of the process, we may need one of the following: soft rags and soft sponges, commercial wood cleaner such as Murphy's oil soap, dish soap with homemade cleaning solution, a teaspoon of baking soda sodium and four cups of hot water, window cleaner (newspapers are a good cleaning cloth that doesn't leave streaks on the glass), commercial metal cleaner or hot soapy water for metal door latches, and oil for hinges .
Use a commercial product or household mix to clean exterior wood doors without paint. For doors with paint, use the homemade solution; do not use Murphy's oil soap.
Prepare the door for cleaning
Before you can clean the exterior wooden doors, you will need to get rid of the dust and dirt that has accumulated on them.
Open the door and start at the top of the door frame, using the vacuum brush where possible. Then dust with absorbent paper, rags or a duster where the vacuum could not reach.
Dust the entire door frame and door from top to bottom and use that time to inspect the door for stains and damage. Use the small brush to work in the crevices.
Finally, sweep the entrance, inside and out.
