Facebook introduces extra verification for US election advertisers

in facebook •  7 years ago  (edited)

After a lot of criticism on social media regarding fake campaigns in the last US elections, Facebook is thinking to introduce postcards for election advertisers. The company will mail out verification postcards through the US postal service to anyone purchasing ads related to US elections. These postcards will have a special code that advertisers must provide back to Facebook to prove they’re in the United States.

This new change will be implemented from upcoming mid-term elections in November. This is definitely a step forward to prevent foreign nationals from spending money under fake cover to influence US politics. Howoever, this verification method won’t be required for ads that focus on political issues.
