Moments prior to accepting Harvard University's prestigious Radcliffe Award on Friday, Hillary Clinton had an on-stage heart-to-heart with Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. During their chat, Healey asked Clinton, "if you could be a CEO of any company right now, what would you choose and why?"
Without a moment's hesitation, Clinton responded "Facebook" with a questionably nefarious twinkle in her eye.
The response was followed by laughter and applause from the audience and a brief clarification from the former presidential candidate:
"I just want to add, it’s the biggest news platform in the world. We can listen to really brilliant, experienced writers like David Ignatius and try to keep up with the news, but most people in our country get their news, true or not, from Facebook."
Actually, people used to get their news from Facebook. Unless you're a consumer of purely mainstream, corporate, Atlantic Council-approved news and propaganda, you're probably not seeing the news you want to see. Scratch that. You aren't seeing the news you want to see. But you probably aren't one of the Facebook users Clinton cares about.
While Facebook appears to be attempting to win back the favor of its user base after the Cambridge Analytica scandal and revelations that the social media giant performs secret psychological experiments on its users, Zuckerberg is failing when it comes to alternative media.
Perhaps Clinton was tasked with propping up the network as it solidifies its relationship with the U.S. government and corporate media machine. Or perhaps she really has her sights set on Silicon Valley. Who knows.
Clinton did acknowledge that Facebook is currently dealing with "unexpected consequences of their business model" and that she hopes they "get it right because it really is critical to our democracy that people get accurate information on which to make decisions."
The Radcliffe Award is given to those whose work has had "transformative impact on society," according to Harvard. It is true that Clinton has transformed the DNC, Haiti, and Libya but something about her being chosen for her record as a "champion for human rights" just doesn't sit right.
After her failed 2016 run for president, Clinton left the Democratic National Committee in shambles and, nearly two years later, the committee has yet to recover. Maybe Hillary Clinton actually is the CEO we need Facebook to need right now.

HRC. The answer to the question "Who has so little ethics or morals that they could possibly make Facebook even more loathsome ?".
