Can anything stop Facebooks domination? Well it doesn't look like it.
The social network was founded in 2004 and reached the 1 billion-user milestone in October 2012, meaning it has signed up around 580,000 new users a day since then.
Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, who made the announcement, said:
"We're making progress connecting the world, and now let's bring the world closer together."
It would seem that everyman and his dog is on Facebook and i am no different. I think the groups are good because you do get to see members content with no restrictions but i absolutely hate Facebook pages and Facebook profiles, really 4% reach, your happy with that? And i also use the messenger to keep in contact with friends. But Facebook as a site, if it was shut down i think i would be smiling for the rest of the year,

It's the network effect in action. We need to be there to reach friends. That's what I use it for plus a few groups.
I don't see Steemit replacing the less public aspects of FB, but it could be a much better place for bands, artists, writers and others who want to reach their fans and earn for their work.
Steemit is supposed to be getting groups/communities soon. That could help it take off.

the thing about Facebook is you can't compete if you just copy them, they then just censor you or plan b buy you out, you have to build a niche and just co exist. Look at twitter. Twitter is not a threat to Facebook and Facebook is not a threat to Twitter they co exist cause Twitter found a niche of posting with only 140 characters and that is not what Facebook is interested in.
