Miaow is an island located in the middle of Jiapeng Island in the Wanshan Archipelago at the mouth of the Pearl River, and belongs to the town of Tandem in the Wanshan Marine Development Pilot Zone of Zhuhai. ". Miao Bay is also the furthest inhabited island from Zhuhai city and there are currently no flights to the island, so no matter where you go to Miao Bay from, you will eventually have to charter a fishing boat or yacht to get there. Our trip to Miaowan had been planned for months, and we had initially planned to contact a fishing boat to go from Zhuhai Xiangzhou to Miaowan, for a return trip of 3600 RMB for 8 people, but when we were ready to go, the government banned fishing boats from carrying passengers to Miaowan Island, so we had to go to the Zhuhai Yacht Club and charter a large flying yacht for 5500 RMB for 11 people, which would take about 1 and a half hours to get from Xiangzhou to Miaowan if the wind was calm. It took us two hours to get there, enjoying the waves, the cold wind and the bumps all the way to Miaowan pier, soaked to the skin and full of bitterness, so it seems that arriving at a beautiful place is always accompanied by hardship.
1.jpg
Sitting comfortably on the rocks, enjoying the moist sea breeze and warm sunshine, looking out over the clear waters and mirage-like islands, the hardships of the journey were already behind me.
2.jpg
Miao wan is a small island with an area of 2.3 square kilometres. The villagers live centrally on a reef next to the island and a seawall has been built in the middle to connect it to the island.
3.jpg
Miao wan is a village, the whole village stands like a mirage on the sea, a beauty built by man and nature. When my friends saw the pictures of Miao Bay Island in my WeChat circle, they could not help but exclaim, "Is there such a beautiful place in China?
4.jpg
Like many villages, once prosperous and now in decline, Miaowan village was almost at its most prosperous in the 1970s and 1980s, with not only thousands of villagers in the village but also a primary school, police station and health centre.
5.jpg
Today, nine out of ten people have left Miaowan, with most of them having moved to larger islands or to the city of Zhuhai, leaving only a hundred or so people on the island.
6.jpg
It is said that this is the only tree in the village, which is not true, but there are very few trees in the village, and this is probably the largest one.
7.jpg
There are still about ten or twenty families in Miaowan who make their living by receiving tourists and fishing, but the government later banned fishing boats from carrying passengers to Miaowan Island for leisure tourism on the grounds of ecological protection, and the once very popular Miaowan tourism was dealt a heavy blow.
8.jpg
The government's reasons for banning tourism on the island were that fishing boats carrying passengers were a serious safety hazard, that the island itself was not equipped to receive tourists, and that the domestic waste generated by tourists on the island seriously damaged the ecology of the island.
9.jpg
But the fishermen have another story to tell, saying that the Geli Group plans to buy the island to develop high-end tourism, but the remaining islanders do not fully agree, so they are forcing the islanders back by banning tourists from the island.
10.jpg
I can't say who is right and who is wrong, and I can't tell which is true, but I would prefer that Temple Bay Island remain as it is.
11.jpg
High-end island tourism can be created at any time, but a natural and unique landscape like Miaowan can't be recreated if it's lost.
12.jpg
What can you do in Miaowan? Laze, watch the sea, fish, swim, dive, hike, sunbathe, count the stars, watch the sunrise and sunset ...... are all no-brainers, plus there's an ugly cell tower on the island, but mobile phone reception is sporadic so you can just turn your phone off.
13.jpg
That's it, leave your worries behind, turn off your phone and plunge into the blue sea, where you can swim with abandon and look for clownfish in the rocks.
14.jpg
You can also lie on the beach and laze in the sun. There aren't many tourists at Temple Bay, so if you're here on a weekday, you'll probably have the beach to yourself.
15.jpg
This beach is called Bamboo Bay Beach, not too big or long, but blue sea and white sand, and we were the only ones there on the whole Saturday morning.
16.jpg
By late afternoon, it was full of tents, but compared to the dumpling pools and beaches, this blue sea was still paradise.
17.jpg
Sitting on the rocks, the village of Miaowan hangs alone on the endless sea, with a slight sea breeze blowing, it feels like a blessing to laze around here.
18.jpg
There is also the sunrise and sunset, which is not very beautiful, but the feeling of that moment is simply happiness.
19.jpg
There is nothing to eat in Temple Bay, only seafood.
20.jpg
You never have to think about what you're going to eat today because it's useless to think about it - you eat whatever the fishermen catch.
21.jpg
We didn't even bother to order any food, 500 yuan for a table of 10 people, the boss himself looked on, the boss is also real, there can only be one vegetable, they are all grown in their own small vegetable patch, seafood can let you eat well.
22.jpg
There is no farmed seafood here, it is all caught, so the seafood is all "wild" and basically "raw".
23.jpg
Fresh sea prawns are alive and kicking, which would cost nearly 100 yuan a catty at the market.
24.jpg
Fresh seafood is best cooked in its original flavour, which is the best place for good ingredients.
25.jpg
You don't even need salt, just dip it in soy sauce and the fresh squid will be delicious.
26.jpg
The fishermen's approach is not refined, but the unique freshness of the seafood is simply cooked.
27.jpg
Apart from the sea view and seafood, the mountain view of Miaowan is also a must-see.
28.jpg
The entire island of Miaowan is made up of rocky hills, basically in a pristine state, with only a small reservoir halfway up the hill and a signal tower in the middle of the hill as the only artificial traces.
29.jpg
The village of Miaowan looks like a huge fish floating on the sea, far away from the hustle and bustle of the world, hidden in the sea.
Before 1997, those who came to Miaowan for holiday travel were basically Hong Kong people, as Miaowan was closer to Hong Kong than even to Zhuhai, and Miaowan people could never go directly to Hong Kong without a visa, and most of the quality seafood from Miaowan was sold to Hong Kong. In recent years, with Miaowan being named as one of the most beautiful islands in Guangdong, outdoor tourism organisations are getting hotter and hotter, and Miaowan has seen an unprecedented tourism boom. On summer weekends, hundreds and thousands of tourists would flock to Miaowan, causing great pressure on the ecological environment of Miaowan, especially in terms of water consumption, as all the domestic water in Miaowan comes from mountain water and rainwater, and a small reservoir accumulates the domestic water of the whole island. Miao wan is famous for its sea fishing. Rich people who play sea fishing love to come to Miaowan in their yachts with their fishing rods, in fact, you don't need to go far, just take a broken fishing rod at the pier, you can catch squid. For tourists, Miaowan is a paradise island, but for the islanders, moving away from the island when they have money is the right thing to do.
