Jesus taught a lot about the problem of money in the gospels, and in one of his most important teachings he explained that money appears to man's reason as a goal of the human life, but in reality, it is not; money is essentially like happiness, an apparent good, as the divine master taught with wisdom in the parable of the sower: "The worries about this life and the love for riches choke the message, and they don't bear fruit" Matthew 13:22.
When men fight for the attainment of the apparent goods, due to their scarcity, man becomes the enemy of man, and thus begin the strategies of concealment and the destructive unforeseen events or stumbling rocks. And this translates into another very important social issue: those who love money cannot live in communion with their brothers.
This is why Jesus taught about the opposition between the flesh and the spirit, those who live according to the desires of the flesh seek what is immediately visible, while those who follow the spiritual do not let themselves be carried away by first impressions but seek what is essential and what underlies the deepest questions of life.
Jesus was clear, men must choose between two lifestyles or two paths, righteousness or sin. This is why Jesus taught how to recognize people, so that those who follow his teachings and the spiritual doctrine of the kingdom of God, do not fall into the hands of wolves dressed in sheep's clothing; and so with these words, Jesus explained how people behave: "One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?" Luke 16:10-12.
Like every spiritual teacher, Lord Jesus emphasized that the true goal of man is excellence, or in other words, the contemplative life, and that as a result of this good, others emerge, like wealth or longevity, and not on the contrary.
