When any service is centralized, not decentralized on a blockchain, then its possible for the owners to censor and manipulate. That's enough for me to call the mainstream media the "real fakenews" and upvoted information on steemit, made by real journalists, for true news.
Of course Steemit is very new and need to be developed to contain usable real news, but the potential is for sure here.
