As some of you might know, back in August of 2017 we purchased a 30ft. travel trailer. While we cannot use it nearly as much as we would like, we use it as much as we possibly can. For me our trailer is my home away from home. I am one who does enjoy staying one or two nights in a hotel, but after that I get very homesick and am aching to go home. Having a travel trailer that is homey and comfy is my key to travelling and staying sane.
The hubs has been working many long hours and even the entire Mother's Day weekend so he decided to use a vacation day and take his family on a mini weekend getaway to Lake Texoma.
Caleb and I were happy to oblige him on the lake outing. :) I thought it would be fun to show you what we did on our mini vacay.
Texoma is the lake that is part of Texas and part of Oklahoma. We are about 45 minutes from the Texoma Resort we visited this weekend. So it didn't take us very long to arrive and start in on the fun, which is good when you have a very antsy 7 year old.
Swimming for Caleb is very big deal. We don't have room for a pool in our back yard and to be quite frank, I wouldn't have a pool even if I had the room. (They are a lot of work) So Caleb only gets so many chances to swim during the year. When we go to the resort, it is one of the times he gets to live it up, dolphin style, in the pool.
As you can see he's a very happy little boy when he's swimming.
I don't swim much, so Scooby and I sat it out by the pool and enjoyed watching Caleb and Brad. As you will see in the photo below, Scooby was not in a good mood. He was having the toughest time sitting in the pool chairs without falling thru the seat.
Another favorite of Caleb's is playing on the Putt Putt Golf course. We made sure we parked right next to it so we could play as much as his little heart desired.
While I am mostly an indoor girl, I do love to take time to be outside in nature some. We have been to this resort many times over the years, the hubs and I, and never have we ever walked the trails. I told the boys that it was one of the activities I really wanted us to.
Hiking isn't really the boys "thing" but I knew that I wanted to go walking and just have that time to visit with them, without a bunch of distractions. But I knew that Caleb would eventually get bored of looking at trees, so I printed off a nature hike scavenger hunt paper for all three of us to have while hiking.
It actually worked out quite nicely....that is until a very large bug crawled on Caleb and he freaked out. Our hike was over then....we headed back the the trailer. :/
One thing that was so wonderful that came out of our trip was that even though Caleb is 7 years old, he still had not rode his bicycle without training wheels. We decided to take this time together and have Caleb practice riding and to our delight, he got it on the first time!!
A few other activities that we enjoyed on our weekend get away were some that the resort offers. They always have bingo on Saturday afternoons and a craft for the kids to enjoy....so we decided to take advantage of those indoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
Bingo was really fun because us three kicked some serious tail ends during our rounds. I won one round and Caleb and Brad each one twice!!
Caleb made a magnet that looked like Scooby...it only took 35 minutes for us to pick our every one of the white and brown perler beads to make this. :)
After then it was getting dark and time to heat up the grill for dinner. Of course, true to camper tradition, we just had to make smores.
Don't worry, Scooby didn't get a hold of the chocolate.
We were up the next morning to find it raining on us. We decided to play a few games in the trailer and then we packed it all up and headed back home.
We had such a fun time and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect weekend with us three together. There were no distractions or disturbances, just the boys, Scooby and I all together as a family. I loved every minute of it and can't wait for our next getaway, whether it be mini or massive.
While buying the trailer was quite and expense for us, it has been worth every single penny that has been put into it. And we are excited to continue to make so many more memories with Caleb as we travel around Texas and the rest of the States.
I am so happy you came to visit my boys and I here at 523!! I hope you come back and visit again tomorrow. We are back on track with some makeup talk, I can't wait!! But until then, take care.
