Preparation Day on the Homestead: Breakfast, Hornets, Jump Rope, Peppers and Marshmallows.

We Made it Up the Mountain!

After getting our goods up the mountain and setting up camp, we slept our first night on the homestead. It was very cold, but we managed well.

We got up and started the campfire and fired up our campstove to make some instant oatmeal - YUM! Easy way to feed a family of seven.

We brought a table this year and that makes things more convenient. No more eating our meals on our lap on camp chairs.

We brought over some logs for chairs, making an inviting table.

We are still organizing our camp to make things smooth for the next week.

Our First Visitor

While we were eating lunch, we had our first encounter with a hornet. They fly around like drones, they hover and behave in an almost intelligent way. They can be a little intimidating.

Every time he landed, I got the camera out to capture this guy.

We left him alone and he left us alone. All was well.

Spontaneous Jump Roping

Near our camp, some fellow Sukkoters began a jump rope line. Our girls were very curious, but didn't have much of a chance to jump.

Peppers Arrive

While we were still setting up, a familiar vehicle arrived and we knew the Peppers have arrived. We were happy to visit with @papa-pepper and family again! Best neighbors ever!

image.png

It wasn't long before we found a giant millipede and the wild-man picks him up and has him crawling all over.

image.png

We don't see creatures like this around where we live, most people in Michigan keep their hair shorter. (We love you pepper!)

image.png

My daughter is brave enough to hold the millipede, even though we were told they can blind you from 6 feet away.

image.png

All those little legs tickle as they crawl around.

Dinner: Enchiladas!

We brought a few pre-made meals that are heat and serve and this night was ENCHILADAS! They were delicious!

image.png

Our other neighbors had made extra rice and donated it to our dinner, it was a perfect addition!

Ending the Day with Marshmallows

This day went by quickly. We finished putting together camp, got ready for the first day of Sukkot which is a Sabbath.

We enjoyed the evening around the campfire practicing cooking marshmallows without catching them on fire.

image.png

Ut oh, it caught on fire!

A Fun First Full Day

This was our first complete day on the homestead and it was mostly preparing and acclimating. For us low-altitude people, it took a little while to get use to the slightly thinner air and time change - but we're tough. There is a whole week plus to look forward to, and I'm going to be diligent going through the days!

Thank you for re-living this Sukkot experience with us!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations. Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

When a leftist rag rips apart a book, you KNOW it's good.

The Tuttle Twins series is among the most wretchedly contrived, grotesquely unethically indoctrinating, cliché-ridden heaps of steaming garbage I’ve ever had the misfortune to read. Written to bring young people into one of the most disgraceful political tendencies in the world before they have the critical thinking skills to recognize it, it is a hideous fraud and an ugly twisted farce.
