Well you don’t have to answer right away.

My mom always tries to guilt me for not replying right away but she’s the only one who disappears for 5 days. Everyone’s got their own way to use social media and messaging and we can only accept that and make boundaries. I usually have certain times of day that I check messages, on the train and between certain activities, other than that I don’t really check. This applies especially to conversations that are just kind of shooting the shit. If I’m going to shoot the shit, I’m going to shoot the shit good and maybe make an hour long podcast out of it ;-)

We are all different and so are our moms ;>)
Mine would never disappear for 5 days.

Talking about boundaries, if you have as much 'free' time as me and so little to do around the place, it's easy to get lost on the Internet / smartphone.

For me there's no middle way, it's either being very social or using airplane mode / switching my phone off.

Seems like you want to shoot the shit again. I will be available from Tuesday onwards ( two days of niece and nephew sitting upcoming )

Great to have that connectedness to all your family now!
It's good you dad has your mom to show him how to work it!
That was the hardest thing I found was to teach my dad how to use the computer once he got one (that was a ways back when there wasn't as many apps and such !)
I like your idea of a once a week day fast from the internet!
I go to visit with my granddaughter once a month and that is when I cut back on internet stuff - it feels good to have a break!

Yeah and if my mom can't explain, my younger sister lives nearby.

Thanks for reminding me once again of the Internet fast. I must admit that I find it tough to actually make it a day a week, might go for one day every two weeks for starters.

Awesome that you choose to just be in the moment with your grand daughter. I'm sure it makes for the best memories, from both sides :>)

Hahaha... We use words without even knowing what it actually is.
Never been to Hell. And no sir i dont want to experience it.

As far as I know having family members connected to you over social media.. well it has its downs and downs and very few ups.

hahaha! My mom read this comment and said on Whatsapp:

"Is Inuke very negative here or am I not understanding his message?"

To which I replied: "he's a joker." :>)

Fair play to your dad for giving it a go. My father was a bit of a Luddite. I tried for years to interest him in the internet, mobile phone, and even Kindle, but he wouldn't even try. He couldn't, and that was that. I suppose it could have been worse...I could have been in a Whatsapp group with him:)

My father is pretty much interested in technology but due to health issues and a deteriorating memory it isn't always the best combination. Whenever I'm around, I need to fix phone and computer problems.

Wow that sounds like a lot of chats! The only one I stay in touch with in my family is my mother and she uses WhatsApp in a very timid way, trying to get my attention from time to time. And then I call her if I have the possibility. I actually don’t spend a lot of time online, but more since I joined Steemit, trying to find my way around here.

We all have our own way of dealing with whatsapp. Even for a guy like me, who's 38, I am still struggling with how to use smartphones as I grew up without them. I was forced to start using a phone - a bday present from my parents - from my 19th onward, when I just started University.

I guess it's a parent thing ( especially a mom thing ) to always be concerned about your kids well being.

I’m also 38 🙂

An awesome age! Cheers to that!
