Mental concepts.
The notion of art has been interpreted quite differently throughout history and among different cultures, and there is no universally accepted definition of what it is. Painting, sculpture, and architecture are the three traditional sub-disciplines of visual art. A broader definition of the arts includes literature, music, film, dance, and other performing arts in addition to other media like interactive media. Prior to the seventeenth century, there was no distinction between trades and sciences and art, which referred to any talent or expertise. The fine arts are divided and valued separately in modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are predominant.
Aesthetics is a discipline of philosophy that examines the nature of art and related ideas like creativity and interpretation. The resulting works of art are researched in the academic disciplines of art history and art criticism.
Overview
From early prehistoric art to current art, creative works have existed for almost as long as humankind, according to the history of art. However, some thinkers believe that the conventional definition of "artistic works" doesn't work well outside of contemporary Western countries. The ancient Latin definition of art, which roughly translates to "skill" or "craft," as connected with words like "artisan," is a close relative in one early definition. The words' artifact, artificial, artifice, medical arts, and military arts are all derived from this meaning in English. There are numerous slang meanings for the word, all of which are connected to its etymology.
