Greetings, steemians. On this occasion I want to talk about Maqui Berries, a fruit that is found in Argentina and Chile. Recent research has cataloged it as a superfood, since it has a high anthocyanin content. This Berry contains the highest level of antioxidants among all fruits. The berries of Maqui or blueberries of Patagonia is native to this part of South America. Its fruits have a conglomerate of properties and benefits that you must take into account to include it in your diet. It is considered a superfood like spirulina or moringa. The plant, aristotelia chilensis, grows wild in Argentina and Chile and produces delicious berries of an intense purple color. Today it is considered one of the richest sources of antioxidants available.

Nutritional value of Maqui Berries

• With this fruit you can make jams, juices, as well as eat fresh and raw or dry in winter. The Mapuches elaborated a chicha to which they denominated Tecu.
• In the pharmaceutical industry, this fruit is used as an antioxidant.
• Because of its intense color it is also used to dye wool

The berries of maqui possess:

• A high content of vitamin E and vitamin B5, which makes it an excellent additive for the skin.

• For years the Mapuche have used it as a natural remedy for different ailments. They used their juice as energizer and to dye the wool.

• Used as a tonic, it helps protect the skin from solar radiation.

• Concentrated maqui juice can have positive actions against cancer, since it has a high content of Phenols about 12.32 mm Fe / 100g.

• It has a high anti-inflammatory power.

• Poultice can be made and placed on wounds caused by heat or burns.

• It has a high content of vitamin C and several trace elements that influence the immune system.

• It also has minerals such as zinc, chlorine and cobalt.

• It is a powerful regulator of glycemia, since it allows a slower absorption of carbohydrates, so it can be in the diabetic diet.

• Recent studies have postulated that it would help prevent Alzheimer's disease.

• Maqui juice significantly reduces the oxidation of lipoproteins.

• It contains large amounts of delphinidin.

• It is considered a metabolic switch, as it slows down the aging process and increases the production of chemical energy in food.

• Contains antibacterial, tonic and astringent properties.

• The pigments present in the maqui are able to stop the growth of cancer cells in the colon.

• Studies point out that this fruit is so rich in beneficial substances for our body, due to the extreme environmental conditions in which it grows.

• Its intense dark purple and bright color is obtained from a pigment called anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is resistant to redness and responsible for much of the antioxidant power of maqui berries.



It is noteworthy that this fruit has been little studied by the area in which it is located, however the corresponding investigations are being carried out to know more about this plant.
