What is a plantain tree?

A plantain tree is an herbaceous flowering plant in the banana family that produces starchy fruits called plantains.
Despite the fact that plantain plants are commonly referred to as "trees" and can grow to heights up to 20 to 25 feet, they are not actually trees.

Plantains grow on trees, and other parts of the tree are also used for practical purposes. According to a 2015 study published in the Journal of Food Science and Technology , flour made from plantain peel is a very good source of antioxidant dietary fiber and can be used to make cookies.
