Meet Sherlocka Holmes, twin sister of Sherlock Holmes. She is wearing a similar cape coat like Sherlock Holmes but she gave it her own feminine twist.

This is my biggest project so far on Steemit. It took me more than one week to make this custom made cape coat. I used the same fabric like Sherlock Holmes's cape coat. It is a mix of wool and cotton. Since it is a checked fabric I needed to make sure the lines would match together as much as possible.

Day 1

As usual I started with making patterns from scratch
First I measured myself and how long I wanted the cape coat to be. After that I started making the patterns.

After one hour I noticed a mistake. I was looking for the mistake for 30 minutes. Usually I will find my mistake within a few minutes. I found out that the mistake was in the book. There was one step missing in the book. So I had to improvise.

I decided to make a collar because I think the cape coat is too simple and too basic.

I changed a little bit the design because I like the collar to be lower and a bit bigger.

Day 2

Retraced the patterns on other piece of retracement paper
Added seams every where
Widen the cape coat both front and back
Adjusted the pelerine
Making the patterns for the lining of the cape coat

Day 3

20171018_103103.jpg

I washed the fabric first and ironed it because it is from wool it can shrink when I would wash it later on. Then I cut all patterns on the checked fabric.

Day 4

I ironed facing fabric on to the 2 front fabric pieces, seams (lowest part of cape coat).

Day 5

This day I put the focus on the pockets and arm holes.

The pocket hole without a pocket.

The pocket lining.

Making sure if the lines are matching. Wasn't easy. The left side is matching as you can see, the right one not so.

Day 6

On the sixth day I :

Ironed partly the back with facing and the seams of the pelerine
Stitched the pelerine on the front of the cape coat
Ironed the lower collar and stitched the lower and upper collar together
Attached the collar to the cape coat

Day 7

This day I cut the lining for the cape coat, stitched it together and attached it in to the cape coat. The armhole was very challenging.

Day 8

Closing the seams of the cape coat and sewed press buttons.

Day 9

Last day, I stitched the faux leather belt and made holes for the belt.

It can always be better in my eyes, but over all I am very happy ;-).

Amazing job! I love the cape! I'm definitely going to have to make one myself.

Wow great job, looks great!

Thank you @drewley :-)

Nice description of a creative fashion art.
Go ahead and wish you success @fathin-shihab

Thanks @madushanka. I also wish you too success :-)

You are super skilled it looks amazing! I pattern make too but I'm not that great at it, need more practice. Such a cool cape/coat!! Maybe @sherlockholmes might like one ;)

Practice makes perfect. :-) I also still need to learn a lot even though I am graduated from fashion/design school. I hope I will see more of your steemit clothes in your posts ;-). Happy you like the cape coat too. I can make a male cape coat for @sherlockholmes :-D. Thank you!

Nice cape coat you hand made @fathin-shihab. Nice explain to make easily.

thank you @dragonking :-)

This is super cool! I used to be in fashion design so you awakened long forgotten memories of designing, pattern cutting and sewing! People think it's easy, but there are so many things to consider and measure when making a garment. Well done, the result is truly amazing :)

That's cool! Pattern making is indeed not easy at all and even my husband underestimated it. When he tried it himself, he gave up after few minutes :-D. It's not just drawing lines from dot to dot. I wish I could see your work too :-). I feel kinda lonely and would like to know more steemians who are making patterns + sewing on this platform :-). Thank you @nomad17 !

Yeah, most people think it's easy! I don't have any of my work as it was ten years ago and I didn't keep anything especially when I had to relocate :( I did women's wear for a while, but in the end specialised in men's wear as I found it more challenging. But I do miss those old days of discussing design ideas, deciding the best way to make the transition from a design to a pattern then to the final outcome. It's a process but the results are really rewarding! Keep it up and I am sure steemians who are currently doing this will join you :) I will keep rooting for you!

I graduated from fashion school in 2004 :-D. But after that I kept making clothes, not so many actually. It's a pity you didn't keep anything. I would like to see your designs too :-). Men wear is not the same, it looks more easier because men are not curved and have no breasts, but it is the inside work of a coat/blazer that is a lot of work using interfacings. Thank you @nomad17 ;-)

Dopeness!

hahhaa, I agree, it's very dope :-)

Wow ! extraordinary photography, Great works, I wish you success.

Thank you ;-). You too success!

Now you are looking the professional detective :D

Almost @blazing! I miss a cap! ;-)

This coat is super cool ! I am very impressed with the pattern making, it looks like drawings made by an engineer. This actually makes 3D modeling look easy in comparison hehe !

Thank you ☺. Making patterns is a very complicated thing because it goes around your body, legs and arms. 3D printing/designing is indeed much easier and qui😁

Yea making pattern is very complicated I can tell ! Can't you do some freelancing work with this skill ? It must be many designeda out there wanting to make clothes but they have no clue about how to do patterns

I did in the past, working together with someone. But she always came late and didn't want to pay the full amount... So I said good bye to her. Here in the Netherlands people rather buy clothes in shops. Because custom made is expensive.Sewing is easy, takes a few months and you can start. pattern making is complete different level, you need an education for it. And some girls follow fashion school just because they think being a fashionista is all you need to graduate from fashion school. But as soon they sit in front of a sewing machine or making patterns, many quit. I have seen many girls, especially fashionista's that quit because they don't like that sewing and designing part. They only like the catwalk part.

Yea I guess people are becoming more and more convenient. Still it's an awesome skill to have - you can make your own clothes just the way you like them ! Not everyone can say that hehe

I don't know anyone in my family or friends that can make patterns. It's becoming very rare. But the funny thing is that some people don't believe I can make my own clothes after showing what I have made. They think I'm lying and bought it from a shop. I guess I just have to see it as a compliment. :-)

If they don't trust you now you have proof on the blockchain :) I would definitely see it as a compliment!

Beautiful job Sherlocka Holmes :). I admire your work. More than a week of work. WAW! The checked fabric makes the difficulty higher indeed. I LOVE the third picture. You are very photogenic!
Thanks for sharing @fathin-shihab.

It was a lot of work, especially in combination with kids :-). The checked fabric was indeed a pain in the butt :-). Thank you @diamondinform.

Talent+Beauty+Skillful Mom= Boss-Lady😎

Thank you😊

That is so pretty. Job well done!

Thank you ☺

You made that?! That's awesome. I'm impressed. Following you now.

Yes I made that! ;-). pictures are proof of work :-). Thanks! Follow you back!
