Like almost every woman, you probably stood in front of the mirror in the morning and wondered: Should I wear these earrings? Or maybe this necklace is too bright ?
The thing is, the rules for working in fashion differ depending on the type of work you do, and while most employers provide basic clothing guidelines, they don't specify what fashion jewelry is allowed under their dress code.
The good news is that there are decorations to suit every work situation. Here's a list of do's and don'ts to help you figure out which jewelry is right for you and which ones are best left at home instead of going to the office.
What kind of work do you do?
It may seem like common sense, but often we are so used to our daily work environment that we don't think about the day-to-day realities of our work.
Obviously, if you're working with your hands, creating art, caring for animals, or gardening, you probably won't even consider wearing your jewelry to work.
However, the image has more shades of gray if you work in an office, school, or, for example, a bus driver.
Jewelry
are meant to make a statement, but sometimes that kind of statement isn't quite right for your job.
You might think of it this way: Will this decoration distract others or me from my work ? If you think it will, leave it at home. If you don't think the element in question is distracting or will send the wrong message, then run!
What should I wear to work: bright or big jewelry?
This largely depends on the type of work you are doing. For example, if you are a teacher who teaches students, it is likely that a large decoration will be a big distraction for them. You may or may not want to deal with their lack of attention all day long because of your oversized necklace or dangling earrings.
However, if you're a realtor, stylish, eye-catching jewelry can enhance your image rather than get in the way of your day-to-day work on a personal level.
Two main considerations: safety and comfort :
Items such as dangling or long necklaces, earrings, or multiple bracelets may not be suitable if you are going to do a job where they can get tangled or caught on something. If you are on the phone all day, large earrings can make you feel uncomfortable.
It's always good to think about your own comfort as well as how good your jewelry looks.
The dress code at my company is very conservative: can I even wear jewelry?
If your company hasn't specifically stated that you can't wear jewelry, they'll likely assume you're waiving the styling line from the general dress code.
If you work in a bank, for example, you can often see small earrings and understand necklaces or bracelets. Some banks do not allow tellers to wear jewelry to reduce the risk of robbery.
If you know your employer is generally very conservative, it's probably best to leave all your large, colorful, or dangling jewelry at home.
How about necklaces, ankle bracelets and other unusual styles?
Again, the answer to this question probably depends on the general dress code in your company:
Most corporate jobs don't allow open back shirts or dresses, so a choker in the back wouldn't be a good idea as it would just be covered up all day.
Ankle bracelets will likely only be allowed to be worn by very casual employers.
Layering large and original bangles can be unacceptable, and many companies are often equally specific about the absence of finger rings and large ankle bangles.
Corporate jobs tend to be mostly about having no distractions from the actual functions of the job and subscribe to the stance that you will perform your best if you adhere to minimalist standards that include only modest and discreet clothing and jewelry.
However, the corporate landscape is changing as more people embrace a relaxed attitude towards the dress code. It is becoming more and more common these days to see more and more expressive jewelry styles in work.
I still want to stand out
So, let's say your workplace is pretty conservative and you know they'll frown on your favorite backdrop choker or body chain you wore on your date yesterday, but you really want to be true to yourself and bring some spark with you to work every day. This is one of the most common dilemmas of women's corporate life.
How to be an individual when your company wants everyone to be conformist!
Fortunately, there are still ways to come to work with excitement and personality, even if you have to leave your favorite ankle bracelet at home.
I choose classic. Some jewelry is perfect for any occasion or situation. This includes:
Pearl stud earrings
Diamond tennis bracelet
Pearl necklace
Diamond solitaire pendant
Diamond studs
Ring of eternity
Solitaire Ring
These jewelry never go out of style and go with all types of clothing. You can easily switch from casual to evening wear without changing jewelry.
Matching sets of earrings, bracelets and necklaces. There are many fun ways to wear a matched jewelry set, and putting all the pieces in the set together can give this business suit a bold and fun color and style.
Wear more than one necklace . You may not be able to wear a body chain to work, but you can certainly wear a necklace or a strand of pearls with your favorite sweater. Maybe you can't decide which chain to wear in the morning. Decision? Wear both!
Wear a unique ring . Many jobs require you to have your hands in front of clients for most of the day. If you want to express yourself right away, wear a unique ring that speaks of your style. Everyone will notice and you will probably get a lot of compliments.
Wear something personal . Whether you have a necklace with your first initial on it or a dangle bracelet that you need to choose each charm for, you can have a lot of fun wearing this custom piece to work to remind you that you really do have your own personal style.
