Can the FBI be trusted?

I’m not a conspiracy theory kinda guy, but the timing of the recent FBI raids on the home and office of Texas congressman Henry Cuellar raises questions in my mind. It makes me wonder if someone affiliated with the Biden administration isn’t trying to unseat the conservative Democrat who has been so outspokenly critical of Biden’s immigration policy.

Cuellar survived a strong challenge in his 2020 Democratic primary, and that challenger, Jessica Cisneros, is back again, this time with the support of the progressive firebrand, AOC, who is coming to the Laredo, Texas district next week to campaign for Cisneros.

Why did the FBI conduct the raids? And why did it conduct the raids so publicly, generating so much adverse publicity for the incumbent congressman, this close to the March 1st primary?

I hope that both the investigation of Cuellar and the timing of the raids have nothing to do with politics in Texas or Washington, DC, but, like many Americans these days, I'm not sure whether I can trust the FBI, the Justice Department, or the White House to keep law enforcement separate from politics.
