Psychology called this exposure therapy (in german Konfrontationstherapie). But we all know these fears from our everyday life.
Let’s do a little thought experiment. Imagine a 10-year-old kid who wants to jump from the 10-meter-springboard but does not dare. What are the options? The child can to withdraw or to slowly approach.
Provided it can already swim, we start with a jump from the 1-Meter-board. This we repeat again and again, until the child has absolutely joy to jump and is no longer afraid. Then follows the 2-meter-board. Again, the same thing. We jump together, it jumps alone, until no more fear exists about the jump. You can imagine how it goes on. Each time we master together a meter further, until we reach 10-meter and the child is not afraid to jump. It made the challenge!
We all know fears. All humans have quite the same basic fears. Also fears are not always bad. They protect us often. But the most of our fears are learned. But this means as well that you can unlearn almost all your fears again. Of course, we cannot just conjure and every fear is gone. Depending on how strong our fears are stored and what experiences we have already made in our lives, this process takes different lengths and needs perseverance, motivation, as much outside support as possible with as few hindering factors as possible. A first step is always to realize our own fears ...
What are your biggest fears? How do you deal with these fears?
Do you have your individual fear symbol?![fear.jpeg]
