Food is a crucial part of our lives and, in fact, we eat between 3 and 5 times a day, it depends on the person. Therefore, it is important to know what we put into our mouths and what benefits we get from what we eat. Some studies indicate that packaged food can be more harmful than we think. Why? Apparently, artificial preservatives could significantly increase the risk of intestinal diseases and metabolic disorders.

These products that we all know as emulsifiers are normally used to improve the texture and increase the life of the food. However, they do much more than this. According to the results of the studies published in the journal Nature , they alter the composition of the bacteria found in the colon and can cause long-term illnesses.

These results were obtained from a study carried out with mice , to which they were administered artificial emulsifiers in doses equivalent to those consumed by a human being that finally the gut microbiota was altered becoming pro-inflammation bacteria .

Colitis or metabolic syndrome could be some of its consequences
This gave rise to a process that made mice susceptible to colitis finally develop the disease chronically and those who were not predisposed had mild intestinal inflammation and metabolic syndrome , conditions that cause the development of diseases such as obesity , insulin resistance, obesity and hyperglycemia.

In summary: Although we still need to carry out studies with humans to see if they would affect us in the same way, the preservatives of packaged food seem to be dangerous for health, so the best recommendation is to take them with caution until new studies that confirm or deny these possible threats to health.
