Hannah Gadsby is an Australian comedian from Tasmania. I'm here to tell you about her comedy special, "Nanette," and why you should watch it immediately. This is Feminism Sunday.
I came into the SO's bedroom a week and a bit ago, and saw that she was watching a comedy special. "You'll like this," she said. "It's very feminist." Foolishly, I did not immediately sit down to watch it. Because I'm an idiot.
The part of the special she was watching was somewhere in the first half hour or so. I know this because Gadsby was delivering rapid fire jokes. Very funny, poignant jokes. But, yeah, jokes.
There's a turn in this show. It happens about midway through. I'm not gonna tell you what happens. But, well, there's a turn. And after that, it's far less about the jokes, and far more about anger.

That turn reminded me, more than anything, of the very start of Tig Notaro's now legendary set-turned-album "Live." You may have heard it, or about it. It's the one that starts with "Hi, I have cancer." You should definitely listen to it if you haven't. It's amazing.
The difference - and I'm definitely not saying one is better than the other - is that Tig Notaro is shooting from the hip in her show. It was taped four days after her diagnosis. Gadsby has been building up to this show for her whole life, it seems.
Gadsby's show is about men. It's about misogyny. And also about art, and hate, and humanity and lesbianism and creativity and medication. It is also about sexual assault.
So, yeah. Get thee to your Netflix machines and watch it. You'll laugh. You may cry. You'll learn about art history.
