Dashain !! Nepal !!

in festival •  7 years ago

Dashain is the biggest festival of Nepal mainly celebrated by Hindu.
Compulsory 'outsiders' aren't the problem dashain status.

Decentralization is important. We need a lot more cities. But it'd be ignorant of people to imply majority of problems arise because of people outside Kathmandu. For instance, my family is not originally from Kathmandu, but I was born and raised in Kathmandu. There are a lot of people like me who think Kathmandu as their home and the only home they know. I probably wouldn't fit in Jhapa or Taplejung, even if there is decentralization.

Why is Kathmandu developed in the first place? Not long ago, Kathmandu had 2 lanes of road. Very few educational institutions, very less hospitals. There were very few facilities, the argument that people made Kathmandu worse can be flipped and can be presented as people made Kathmandu more significant than it already is. Kathmandu now has 8 lanes of road. Significant growth in people's per capita. Schools and colleges in every localities, hospitals in every major areas. 'Locals' have made living out of very less labor by measures like rent and planning. It's very naive to think that 'outsiders' are causing problems.

It's obvious that pollution is caused when government is ineffective in imposing pollution controlling measures in a growing cities. And it's also true that pollution goes away when majority of population leaves the city. However, if this majority leaves the city forever, and do not comeback most of the economic activities would shut down. A lot of jobs, productivity and income would be lost. So the solution of problems like pollution, crime, over population isn't excluding the majority of migrants of Kathmandu, but it is effective governance, proper regulations and decentralization.

Why is it wrong to bash people for migrating to place of facilities?
I, as a rational human, always wish for maximum utility and do everything in my legal and moral power to achieve it. Why do people of Kathmandu, or any other region now migrate to the first world countries? It's because people want maximum satisfaction. So, if the country offers Kathmandu to majority of people to attain their utility they'll go there. If I am a business man, and decide to start a business, in say some rural part of the country it's likely that return would be less there. So, I'll go to Kathmandu, and start my business there. This is very simple human nature. Moreover, we need to recognize people who come to Kathmandu do not come with intention of colonialism and oppression, they come here for harmony and integration. They get, 'these outsiders are the problem of our city', every year and still live here. If there were alternatives probably they wouldn't come here at the first place.

There's a need for decentralization. But if there's idea of social status, more facilities, and a lot of other things associated to it, people will choose to come here. And it's not their fault.
