Think it's the main fan in conjunction with the hard drive; blue screen of death and a high-pitch wail (assuming the computer is screaming in agony because bad touch or something) ... it's an old computer, so guess it's close to upgrade time. I've got my writing backed up onto a thumb drive, but even those aren't 100% assured to not degrade over time. With my chapters backed up on here, they'll survive the test of time as first drafts locked in the chain block. But yeah, I've got them backed up in a few places. Read horror stories of losing whole novels... Anything to avoid that nightmare!
