Wow, very gripping prose! It's so sad to think how many have lived this in real life. Have you seen the series, "You" yet on Netflix? We started watching it and it's very dark but the writing is just phenomenal.

I watched the first season, but lost interest, to be honest :/ A friend recently told me what happens in season 2 and honestly, it sounds like it just unravels big time...

They could have taken it in a better direction to make the plot more of a slow burn instead of an inferno. We just wrapped up season 2 and, although it was entertaining, it was a HUGE disappointment overall. They could have made Joe more likable, getting revenge in less nefarious ways, and it would have been way more satisfying.
