CHAPTER TEN
Alicia drove straight to her apartment after the party. She had one thing troubling her mind though. She found Danny very familiar, like she had met him before, and not just at the reception at work.
She entered her apartment and went to bed, without bothering to make dinner as she had already eaten at the party.
Unable to sleep, she tossed and turned in bed. She knew the answer to Danny's familiarity was very close to coming to her mind. It was after more than an hour of deep thought and concentration that she finally remembered.
Kelly! Yes, she told me about him at the bar. He's the guy Kelly was going out with two months ago, I'm sure of it. Let me call her and check.
Alicia took her phone from the top of the dresser, found Kelly's contact entry and called her.
"Hello. Hi Kelly, how are you, girl?"
"Hi Alicia. I'm good and you?"
"I'm okay. Single, but I'm okay."
"You're not the only one who is single, girl. I'm still single too."
"Really? Haven't you gotten back with that guy, what's his name, Danny?"
"We haven't spoken for a month. We had a fight, I was stressed from work, you know with the security breach and everything. Everyone got busy those days, but things are getting back to normal now. I don't know what happened to him, but he just stopped communicating with me. I've tried his number but it's no longer in use and he hasn't replied any of my emails."
"Oh, I'm sorry girlfriend," Alicia said.
She paused, and then continued, "What was his last name, by the way?"
"Rogers. Why do you ask?"
"Okay, you are not going to believe this but, I met him today, at my boss' party. My boss said he was his personal security provider, or something."
"Are you sure it's him?"
"Yes. I remember his face from that photo you showed me. The one you took when the two of you were on your first date. It's him, I swear."
"But he told me he was a computer technician, not a security guy," Kelly said.
"Men. What can I say, they lie."
"Yeah, I guess so. I just can't believe I fell for him."
"It happens to the best of us, girlfriend. Don't worry, you'll find someone else."
"I hope it's soon though, because I can't stand being single."
Kelly laughed.
"Yeah."
Alicia laughed too.
"Look, it's been nice talking to you, but I have to sleep now."
"Thanks for calling. Maybe we can go out one day and continue our discussion?"
"Sure. I'll call you when I'm free and we'll hook up. Bye Kelly."
"Okay, bye."
