GREEK GODDESSES: APHRODITE

in fiction •  8 years ago

Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and procreation. She resides in Mount Olympus. Her parents are Zeus, god of lightning, thunder, law, order and justice and the ancient Greek goddess Dione, an oracular titaness. Her sacred items were roses, doves, sparrows, myrtle and swans. Her Roman equivalent is the goddess, Venus.
In Hesiod's Theogony, Aphrodite was created from the sea foam(aphros) produced by Uranus's genitals, which had been severed by Cronus(ouch). However, in Homer's Iliad, she is cited as the daughter of Zeus and Dione.
Since the other gods feared that her beauty might lead to conflict, through the rivalry for her favour, Zeus married her off to Hephaestus.
