The Forgotten Ride. Chapter 1.

in fiction •  7 years ago

Mark and Alex stood near the corner of the silver railing, leaning in with their arms extended in an up yours fashion.

Inside the railing a miniature demolition derby was taking place. A red car was continually pummeling all of it's rivals.

Bumper Cars.

They'd been up against that red car too just a few minutes ago. Whoever that guy was, he was pretty awesome. He was also a serious dick. They were tired of it anyway.

In fact, they were tired of just about every ride in the Palantino Amusement Park.

The only reason they were even in this stupid town was because Mark's dad had taken a job doing some contract work for a business friend.

It sucked here.

Aside from the theme park there was absolutely nothing to do.

Eight hours.

That's how long they had spent every single day here since they had arrived over four days ago.

They'd already seen every nook and cranny.

They'd been on every ride backwards and forward, eaten every type of snack food available, been to every game store, and hit on every pretty girl that they could find. In this town there weren't that many to begin with.

Now they were feeling bored out of their minds.

"This sucks. Why is my life such a pile?" Mark complained as he looked down at his white and red striped sneakers.

"You shouldn't be the one complaining, brother. You convinced me that this place would be awesome. Now here I am stuck with no one but YOU to hang out with. " Alex scoffed.

"When's your dad gonna be done anyway? I was hoping to hit on some hick chicks but I'd rather stick my knob in that tree over there than bang these fugly women."

Mark and Alex had been friends since childhood. They were pretty much inseparable. When Mark heard that his dad had taken a job in a Podunk town several hours away he had immediately insisted that his friend accompany them. His father had agreed. He knew it would be easier handling a 14 year old boy if he had someone to entertain him.

Now here they were.

Alex tossed his large white Styrofoam cup right on the concrete floor before heading off in the direction of the boy's bathroom. Coca Cola ran down the blacktop and into the nearby gutter.

Mark followed behind him. At least the facilities seemed to be in good order. The park did seem to care about the comfort of it's guests.

As the boys washed their hands Alex suggested that they might try their luck picking up girls at the local farmers market.

"Those girls are all Farmers daughters! They all look like they could play fullback for the Cleveland Browns!" Mark was wide eyed with disgust.

"Practice, my brother. Practice makes perfect. Besides, who's going to tell any of our friends out here? Nobody's going to know. It's fun for a lark at any rate. Better than ruining my shoes running around this place again and again."

They both sighed in unison before opening the flimsy green bathroom door.

The bathrooms were made to look like a circus tent. The boys room was on the left side while the girls was on the right. There was a divider down the middle, which caused each of the bathrooms to be a semicircle. If it wasn't for that divider the bathroom would just be one large circle. The way the world was going, that divider would probably be gone within the next few years.

This bathroom was at the far edge of the Palantino Amusement Park. It wasn't one that they usually used. Behind the tent was a black iron gate with a white sign hanging down that read No exit here. Exit in front.

Mark was about to turn back towards the bumper cars and the front exit gate, when suddenly Alex tapped him on the shoulder.

"Bro. Bro. What is that?"

He was pointing at something beyond the iron gate. It appeared to be a rather nondescript rectangular building. However, on its side were the words Fright Flight.

Alex was convinced that he could see a large black doorway just behind the building's edge.

"What is that ride doing behind the gate? It is a ride right?"

Mark didn't know, but he was very interested in checking it out.

The two boys jumped the fence without moment's hesitation.

What lies in store for them on The Forgotten Ride?

Find out in the next chapter.
