Beginning

in fiction •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am beginning, well continuing as I already began before making this post, to write a story. Inspired by research into myths and legends in the region where I grew up I've got a germ of an idea that I hope will grow into something that other people will enjoy. I have a key character that I can relate to and who has a journey to endure and learn from.

My first steps in this endeavour will be to build the world that he inhabits, establish it's places, characters, culture and most of all, it's weather. I will write entries on this platform in a sort of wiki fashion, starting with the title and branching out into as many subjects as I can conceive, sometimes actual snippets of story will emerge. I'm not sure what final form this work well take, whether it is book, film, game or simply a collection of ideas, one of the main aims is to get me in the habit of writing every day and of keeping it all in one place.

As a long time supporter of open source software, I am interested in the process of creating a work of fiction in the public realm. I'm not sure how much attention or comment I'll attract with this but I'm sure they any I do will influence me.

Much as I have already begun, I will continue, I hope to bring some of you with me.

A mid future fable where oceans have risen and clouds cover the planet, a slow motion apocalypse is unfolding and our future as a successful species is in doubt, myth and mystery compete with facts and logic and people struggle with what truth they can find.

The working title is

Travels in the County of the Moon.

Cheers dude, I was wondering about Medium with it's wide reach and audience - as it develops I'd love for people to pitch in with their thoughts as it can get boring living totally in your own head... I also like the capacity to edit as you go, building a world and establishing it's rules...
