No it's not canon. The books and comics aren't canon either, and they're sanctioned by CBS and Paramount. Star Trek Continues is an independent production so unless CBS (who own the rights to the Trek TV series) say it is canon, it's not.

The only things that are canon are the TV series and the movies, including the reboot movies. However, the reboot movies take place in the Kelvin timeline, not the Prime timeline, so they're not canon where the Prime universe is concerned.

As an aside, Gene Roddenberry himself wrote the novelisation of 'The Motion Picture' - and said that his own novelisation was not canon.

You're right it's not canon. I really did enjoy it. I wish the original series ran more than 3 seasons.
