Blind Spot: An experince of blindness

in fiction •  7 years ago  (edited)

The last time i saw my reflection in a mirror was sixteen
Am 26 now and i sometimes crave the sight of my evolved physique
It seems am in a different world of my own now
Sometimes i would ask my sighted friend to give me a quick impression of what i looked like
Then i realised the defect of reported speech
He would paused every now and then thinking as to how best to tell me exactly what he saw
He would say to me he wished i could see for myself...

Am often interested in all sort of thumb nail sketch and detail of a new acquaintance as the physique i would ask
What is the color of her hair?
What does her face look like when she smiles?
What is she wearing?
Is she beautiful?
A bit more enthused if my acquaintance was a lady

The critical thing for me is the tone of her voice
"I may not see you, your voice reveals your person"
When i use phrases like that some of my sighter friends are surprised
"You do not mean that, do you?" they would ask
Your words makes sense to me
The echoes and voices are my viewpoint

Experience i gather from conversations based of the uniqueness of each echo
This experience for me is extraordinary
Am not in haste to compare to any other
As the days pass to weeks and months to years my sensitivity seems to be increasing
Its not all darkness for me even though am blind
I may not see anymore with my eyeballs but the eyes of my mind still can see
I still can see things in their echoes

Its a while new and extraordinary world for me. After all its not the absence of the eyeballs that makes one blind; its the absence of vision.
