Everyday Heroes #1: Rule Breaker and Home Maker

in fiction •  7 years ago

She was born in a small town, in even smaller country. All of her life she was surrounded by limited people who knew nothing better then to complain and gossip. Woman in particular were considered to be a one job person, and that job was housewife.

Being different was not an option. But she made that option possible when she was born. Her eyes were a unique combination of green and reddish, like no one has ever seen. A promising feature for our super-hero. Her childhood went pretty fast since she had to work on the farm from early age. But to this day, after 50 years, she clearly remembers sneaking out to the town library, and finding books that spark the imagination. She read all about the biology, and science that she could find and was determined to finish some school, any school that will enable her to be a scientist.

When time for high school came, she was the only female student in her class, breaking the norms once again. She didn't care:

"School is for the mind, not for gender"

She finished at the top of the class, but her parents weren't proud they were humiliated. It was too much attention for a girl in that town, and her parents were simple people who thought the best thing for her is to get married and have children. But she insisted to continue with the schooling, and go out to collage. Since they didn't have much money, she had to enroll in only free collage - Economics - at that moment. Not perfect, but enough to get her to a bigger town with bigger possibilities.

There she met the love of her life, a boy who followed her around for a year gathering the courage to ask her out, and when he did she said yes. And the rest is history..

Well not quite, she did finish collage, and gave birth to a lovely baby boy in the meantime. Looked like the destiny of a housewife is really only thing she could hope for. But then she remembered who she was, not only a mother and a wife, she was the "Rule Breaker" and that is when she went on a serious job hunt, that lasted for months. All applications were declined, based on a fact that she was applying for a job positions meant for men. But our hero didn't give up, she knocked on every door until one opened long enough for her to make everyone see how capable she is. Needles to say, she became general manager after only two years, all she needed was a chance.

To this day she is the most capable woman I know, getting up before the Sun, working all day, and still managing to be a Home Maker. Her abilities, persistence and will power are out of this world. And so she will be our first everyday hero honored in this series.

There is a super-hero hidden in everyone, we just tend to take it for granted. Be sure to find at least one of them, and leave me a comment saying what makes them special.

With love,
Tamara

Well ... the super heroes I admire the most are those who (similar to the one here) overcome labels and create their own identity. This is definitely a trait that makes people special in my opinion :D. Thanks for sharing this inspirational story with us @tamacvet. :)

Thank you for making time in your busy day for my stories!
