Fidelity

Welcome once again to my Nine Noble Virtues series on Steemit. Today we are talking about Fidelity.

For me, fidelity means integrity and loyalty. This is a word that I never even heard of before my time in the Army. Our units motto was Fidelity, Honor, Courage. Coincidentally all three belong to the Nine Noble Virtues.

I joined my unit in 2006, I had been in the Army for nearly 2 years already but I think I knew little about fidelity. I was cheating on my girlfriend, cursing the nation I was serving, and definitely not being loyal to myself. I was not living up to the moral standards I set for myself as a youngster instead of choosing to hang out with the ”cool” crowd.

Even though I accomplished great things during my time in the service, many lessons were learned the hard way by making many mistakes that ultimately affected not only my life but those lives that I had sworn to protect.

Now I don't pretend to be the perfect example of the Nine Noble Virtues, I am far from that, but I am very well aware of them and think about them in my daily life.

Think about them in your daily life too. Are you being loyal to yourself and your family? Are you acting in a way that you can be proud of? Do you act the same way with friends as you do with your children or by yourself? This is something we can all work on.

I'm not saying that you need to be a right-wing nationalist but I am asking that you be true to yourself and act in a manner that is loyal to your beliefs and to yourself. Never betray your family or friends and especially not on purpose.

For example, avoid gossip and going behind peoples backs when you know that you shouldn't. By doing this of these negative actions affect us deeply and weigh us down, they are not productive.

I hope this short post resonated with someone out there! Thanks a lot for reading and please comment below and add to the discussion!

Howdy sir badger! Yes sir I like this post! Most people have no clue what fidelity means just like they have no clue what honor means so this is good teaching. This was short but powerful! Well done sir badger!

Thank you! Means a lot @janton!

Fidelity to me means the folks who are managing my 401k 😅 aaah I'm kidding.

I love these because the passion you have for your family really comes through, as does your well grounded mentality.

Crazy to think that nowadays something as inherent to human nature as 'fidelity' could ever be seen as partisan.. but perhaps times are changing.

Very thought provoking post 🤔 will upvote when my vp recovers

Thanks a lot, man! That's good you have a 401k hahaha. Better than most these days. Yeah our future is definitely uncertain and I think for the most part people want to be better but they would rather life an easy comfortable life with no confrontation.

To remain loyal, first thing we need is to choose our friends/people wisely. Oath of fidelity can backfire if you got acquainted with wrong people.
Another interesting read and good to know that you served in Army.

Certainly true. One of the hardest things is getting rifle of bad influences in life.

Good honesty here mate, the sort of dialogue that one can only expect from someone who has learned some life lessons. Nice.
