The second letter to the Thessalonians makes use of apocalyptic language and describes what the end times will be like, the arrival of the antichrist and the impious man. Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew also tells us about these future times of difficulty: "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.", Matthew 24:9-13.
This is why fidelity to the word is and will be the most important, because love comes from knowledge, to love something you have to know it first: "So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.", 2 Thessalonians 2:15.
This teaching of Paul is a reminder of the Parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9), the word of God is progressive, purifying, and uplifting. You cannot be born of water and the spirit (John 3:3-8) if you do not have constancy and firmness in the wisdom from above (James 3:17). The spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, stability) is the path to the true goal of man, the worship of wisdom (John 4:24) or eternal life: "This is eternal life that they know you the only true God", John 17:3.
The goal of the word is also to remain firm in life in grace, righteousness and good: "And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.", 2 Thessalonians 3:13.
