The sizzle of steam hissed as loud as a cat’s fart, his tear drops vaporizing in the still hot and glowing ashes. The charred remains of the house were all that poked out of the vacant landscape. His knees landed in ash and debris, shoulders heaving with each wrenching sob.
This is my entry into @gonzo's Fifty Word Story Contest with the theme being FIRE. The recent wildfires in California have kept the scenes of devastation streaming across our vision and I'm sure the scene I wrote of happened hundreds of times in the last month.
