Surely I’m traveling north, he thought—or is it east?

The small, densely grouped trees are older than their size suggests; the harsh, high-elevation winters have kept them sleeping and slowed their growth. They have watched many men walk into their cover over the years, and fewer walk out.

Great story, @douglasbalmain, I like this theme of ancient trees, with eyes and ears, our forgotten keepers of history. Looking forward to more, now that you've entered the world of microfiction. I've newly discovered it on steemit thanks to @Jayna's challenge. I'm considering others, too. Like @mydivathings' 365daysofwriting.

I was @Janya's challenge that led me into this world as well—thank you for reading my entry. I'll be looking forward to exploring your page to get to know your writing as well!

Sweet of you, thanks. Meeting such nice folks here, so encouraging to engage. Lots to learn. Have to get myself over to Discord. After I meet a looming deadline, I'll be free to explore...

Wow, well done! Pretty cool that this is your first one. You have a lot going on in this little 50-word piece. I wish the traveler well. I hope he is one that walks out!

Thank you for putting this writer's group together!

Great stuff @douglasbalmain You built a nice little story there that spans centuries in 50 short words... Well done

Thank you @ablaze, I appreciate you taking the time to read it!

It was great, looking forward to reading your next one now 👍

A sad truth. Though, a lot of people step in without the intention of stepping back out - I used to have dreams of running away into a forest and becoming the romanticised woodland-hermit. :)

This world does make those romanticised ideals a temptation.

Good imagery of the forest! I hope our guy is one of the few who get to walk out. Well done!
