Addie woke at daybreak, crossing knee-high blonde grasses to fill buckets from the river.

Fresh morning winds carried the scent of smoke and fish from the camp. Ma had started breakfast.

The yellow sky turned blue as the sun traveled the path that would guide their own trails below.

Westward.

i'm always a big fan of writing that appeals to the senses to create a snapshot that envelopes a reader, something done so well in this piece, @ellievallie.

the sight of the rising sun, the feeling of wheat grass brushing against the legs, the smells of camp and the awareness of the trials and tribulations the journey ahead will bring.
