"Rot" 50 word Story Contest Week #13

Rot

The ice pick sinks deep; puncturing the face and shredding the fibers within. I mark the joist for replacement, victim of a century in the damp, airless cellar. I lean against the foundation and it shifts; stones cascading, revealing cloth-wrapped bone.

The rot runs deeper than I knew.
