I'll start by saying that this is a $15 million movie that looked like a lot of $200 million american movies.
That's immediately something. I've seen worse CGI from much larger movies in regard to budget.
This is also a great movie to come out the same year as Oppenheimer.
Godzilla has always been a commentary on the futility of war, and the atomic bomb.
This movie takes place after Japan had taken the hits of Fat Man and Little Boy.
The strength of the movie is in the human characters -- who are often glossed over in these creature feature movies.
This is a movie that examined Japanese culture at the time, embraced it, and made something progressive of it.
It's brilliant in that sense.
